Cloud and hosting

A file server tucked into a cupboard beside the meter box. An online shop still riding the least expensive mutualised plan on the market. Mailboxes left with whoever registered the domain name twelve years back. Plenty of French firms are built exactly that way, and the arrangement holds up beautifully right until the Friday night a disk gives out. Our job is to lift those pieces into facilities located within the Union and then operate them for you at arm's length. We work with OVHcloud, Scaleway, Outscale and Clever Cloud, and with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace where mail is concerned.

What a server on your premises really costs

The purchase price is only the first line. Compare over three years, adding everything that never appears on the hardware supplier quotation.

Option 1

A server at your place

You own the box; every chore that surrounds it is yours too.

Money up front
Hardware bought in one go
The room
Lockable, and cooled through the summer
Power cut
A UPS with batteries to renew
Failed disk
Somebody on your side has to change it
Not enough power
Another purchase and another tender
Less bother

Option 2

A machine at a hosting facility

Kit, electricity and cooling arrive included; what you settle is a subscription.

Money up front
The first monthly invoice
The room
Included in the subscription
Power cut
Backed-up supply on site
Failed disk
Replaced by a technician at the facility
Not enough power
A change of size, with nothing to buy

How to decide

What suits you

Price up three years with the surrounding expenses in, not the invoice for the box alone.

Owning stands up
Steady load and a technical room already there
Renting stands up
Growth, seasonality, several sites, remote work

We price both paths using your own measurements

The processing agreement with the provider protects you first of all. Under the GDPR the controller is still your business, while the facility is only a processor. Before any migration we read through the processing terms, the stated region and the roster of sub-processors, then hand you the wording to enter in your register of processing activities. As soon as health data enters the picture the provider has to hold HDS certification; some sensitive public contracts additionally call for a SecNumCloud qualified offering.

How a migration unfolds

The schedule is built so that nobody sits waiting in front of a dead screen. Switching over rarely takes long, and the previous environment stays available as a fallback.

01

Recording the dependencies

We measure actual consumption and hunt for the traps: a licence tied to a hardware key, a label printer driven from one workstation, scans dropped onto a local share, a backup writing to a disk plugged in behind the server. Much better discovered today than at eight o'clock on a Monday.

02

The new environment alongside

The machine is created at the chosen provider, data is copied across, then a couple of colleagues put it to real use while everybody else stays on the existing system with their habits untouched.

03

Cut-over outside working hours

One last synchronisation, new DNS records and fresh shortcuts on the desktops, done late on a weekday or across a Saturday. We leave the previous machine powered up for several days, so that reversing course remains possible.

04

Keeping an eye afterwards

We follow the load over the opening weeks and adjust the size, usually downwards. The environment then passes into routine running and your ageing hardware can be unplugged for good.

Questions and answers

In a data centre inside the European Union, and most often in France. OVHcloud, Scaleway, Outscale and Clever Cloud all state the region chosen, and we write that location into the documentation you give your customers or your data protection officer. Where a specification requires one particular region, we confirm it is available before ordering anything at all.

Yes, but only with an HDS-certified provider. A medical practice, an imaging centre or a software house handling patient files cannot make do with a general purpose offering, European or otherwise. In that case we select a certified offering and build on top of it. The certification belongs to the provider: we never claim it as ours.

Electricity, networking and physical kit are the provider responsibility. Anything happening within the operating system belongs to us: updates, settings, copies, supervision, reacting to alerts. That sits either in a Start, Business or Premium plan, or at EUR 95/hour excl. VAT for time spent. Not one of those tasks obliges anybody to visit your premises.

No. With a steady load and a decent technical room, bought hardware can stay competitive over five years. Renting pulls ahead as soon as there is growth, seasonal peaks, several sites or remote working, because it turns an investment into an adjustable monthly cost. We cost both cases before you sign anything.

Yes. Every account and every contract is registered to your business rather than to ours, and we hold data in formats that travel. On request we supply disk images, database exports and the environment documentation, enough to pass the work to another firm or pull the whole thing back onto your own premises.
